Council of the Town of Collingwood is currently composed of one (1) Mayor, one (1) Deputy Mayor and seven (7) Councillors that are elected through an at large election process, meaning each council member represents all tax payers and residents of Collingwood and not a specific ward or area. Council members are currently compensated on a part-time status with details to their compensation and commitments available here: https://www.collingwood.ca/sites/default/files/docs/government/council_info_sheet.pdf
Council approves an annual budget of approximately $100.8 Million and represents approximately 22,000 residents. With the matters before council becoming more detailed and complex, the Town of Collingwood (“Collingwood”) has engaged an external consulting firm to study the composition and compensation of its Town Council (“council”), specifically its Mayor, Deputy Mayor and 7 Councillors. The purpose of the study is to determine how Collingwood compares to other municipalities of similar size, complexity and/or budget in regard to the matters it considers, and/or nearby municipalities in terms of council size, structure, compensation and the part-time status of their roles.
As part of this study, Collingwood is conducting a survey designed to obtain feedback from residents about these topics. The survey should take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete. Survey is now closed.
In addition to the survey, a Virtual Open House has been scheduled for Tuesday, July 12 at 5:00 p.m. The purpose pf the Virtual Open House is to provide the residents of Collingwood an additional means to let us know your opinion on council composition, through an interactive virtual platform. To register, visit https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/virtual-open-house-council-composition-review-tickets-375362057017.
The findings of the survey and participation at the Virtual Open House will help inform the recommendations of this study.
