The Town of Collingwood and Tatham Engineering are pleased to provide residents and business owners in Collingwood with information and details regarding the reconstruction of Sixth Street, between High Street and Hurontario Street, as illustrated on the project map below.
The primary objectives of this project are:
replacement of the existing undersized and deteriorated watermain distribution system, including hydrants and individual services to the property line; and
installation of a transmission watermain to improve water supply and pressure to the west side of Collingwood.
The project will also include:
replacement of aged sanitary sewer and storm sewer, including the replacement of sanitary services to property line;
full road reconstruction, including new concrete curb and gutter;
the addition of an asphalt multi-use trail within the south boulevard; and
reinstatement of all disturbed areas to previous or better condition.
PUBLIC INFORMATION CENTRE
The Town and Tatham Engineering will host a Public Information Centre (PIC) for the project from 6 to 8 pm on May 31, 2023, at the Collingwood Public Library on the 3rd Floor in Community Rooms B&C. We encourage all residents living within and / or adjacent to the project limits attend the open house.
This PIC will be an informal open house (without a presentation) with Town Staff and Tatham Engineering. The purpose of this open house will be to display the preliminary design drawings and to discuss and answer any questions you may have about the Project.

Share I attended the Public Information Session in May and was surprised to learn that there were no plans to replace the sidewalk on the north side of Sixth Street. For several years now, a great deal of water (and ice in the winter) has pooled on the sidewalk and it poses a danger to the public to not rectify the situation when you have the opportunity to. If you drive down Sixth Street after a rainstorm you will see the extend of the pooling. I had emailed the Town about this last year but never received a response. If you would kindly investigate this as an option, it would be greatly appreciated. We are at 419 Sixth Street, just west of Spruce Street. The sidewalk will be reconstructed where the sanitary and water services cross, and catch basins will be installed near the sidewalk to help with the flooding and ponding problems.

Utility relocations and possibly construction could start as early as 2024, but most likely Phase 1 would start in 2025 and Phase 2 in 2026. Residents will be kept informed and there will be no issues with the fifth wheel leaving or entering the site; that can be coordinated with the successful contractor.

The plan is to leave the trees on the north side, unless in conflict with the sanitary or water service. Every effort will be made by the contractor and Town to leave the trees as they are now.
