Local families are becoming homeless
Friends of ours (single mother and her sixteen year old boy) were lawfully evicted due to renovation yesterday. We just helped them move their belongings into a storage facility. She's on disability due to an accident, and on her fixed income, there is nowhere to go. It should be noted that no one involved has addiction or substance abuse issues, and she never missed rent payments.
They'll be staying at Living Waters for four days, then it's ourselves and other friends to put them up and none of us have adequate suites. Her son has been forced out of the only home he's ever known (born and raised in CWood) and now has to complete high school (at CCI) while effectively homeless.
His friends are approaching their parents to try to put them up on a rotating basis, in spare rooms, couches, etc so they don't have to sleep in a tent. This isn't a hypothetical crisis. Children born and raised in this town are becoming homeless, and are immediately at risk for the cascade that can follow.
