The Parks, Recreation and Culture Department is seeking public comments on the Municipal Alcohol Policy Update.
Municipal Alcohol Policy Update
Purpose:
The Municipal Alcohol Policy (MAP) was primarily developed to reduce problems that can arise from alcohol consumption by discouraging the following behaviours:
Drinking excessively to intoxication
Operating a motor vehicle after or while consuming alcohol
Underage drinking, individually or during public gatherings
Drinking in areas or locations designated as prohibited
The MAP provides a management strategy for the control of alcohol on Town property that reflects the municipality’s philosophy, considers the needs of the community and ensures the health and safety of participants and facilities where alcohol service and consumption may be permitted.
Changes:
In 2019, the Government of Ontario announced regulatory changes that impact the sale, service, and consumption of alcohol. In response to these changes, and in accordance with current municipal practices, and upon recommendations from the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, PRC has proposed a series of updates to the MAP.
The draft updated Staff Report and policy can be accessed here, and the current MAP can be accessed here.
While public input is encouraged on any or all portions of the proposed policy, the following proposed changes have been specifically highlighted for public review:
Highlights of Draft Bylaw:
Tailgate Permits
Service of Alcohol
Food Options
Mixing of Alcohol and Cannabis
Please note that the survey will be closed on February 1, 2021 at 11:59PM.
