Accessibility/Inclusivity/Equal Opportunities
Thank you for the most recent proposed Strategic Multi-Year Accessibility Plan for 2020-2025.
1. Accessibility to ALL, everywhere - ramps not stairs (this shouldn't even be an issue in 2020) Accessible doors that actually work. I can't tell you how many times the automated doors are either turned off or not working.
2. Inclusivity to all child/youth/adult community programs and rec programming from ALL business. My disabled youth/teen should be able to participate in any rec program that is offered to the community - this may require the community/business to offer adaptable programming options for those individuals.
3. Seasonal elements: Winter conditions make it hard to ambulate - proper snow removal etc.
4. Equal Workplace/Employment opportunities: Why are we not seeing more individuals with varying abilities in workplaces? My teen (or any individual) shouldn't feel the stigma of having a physical disability when dropping off a resume for his first job, and live in fear of the fact that no one wants to hire them simply because of the way they look, walk, or use an assistive device.
